Nutty About Winter

This little squirrel was running around the property in Winfield finding and re-hiding nuts and bits everywhere. It was very busy but took a few seconds to pose nicely for the camera. This was taken in winter of 2010.

Shining New Light

Ryan was very patient with me as I tested out my new studio light. Pretty nice I think! He makes my lights look good. xoxo

Gloomy Day

This was taken on 22nd of January at a morning soccer game. I had my camera out for some sports action shots. I saw the sun trying to poke out of the clouds and snapped a shot. I kind of like how it turned out. I did a touch of vignetting post production here but it added a bit of darkness. Our team won 7-0 so it wasn't such a gloomy day after all!

Don't Cry Broken Angel

Brook and I had a rainy photo day today. We intended on hanging around some Auto Wrecking yards and take some rusted metal and junk'ed car pictures. When we got there, and asked if we could take some shots, they said 'No.No photos.' I wonder if we made them nervous. After all we are very scary looking. A bit discouraging, but oh well. This is a shot from the graveyard across from John Oliver High School in Vancouver. Check out the tear in this Broken Angel's eye. Thanks to the rain.

Pinned down

I took this in 2009. I think this was one of the first shots I took that made me think that ANYTHING can be turned into an artistic photograph. I like the clothes lines and the cloud next to the tree in the background as well.

A Few More Of Pam & Dan & Baby-to-be

Baby blocks.

Every now and then, a sentimental smooch was in order. I'm so glad I captured their true feelings in this shot. A really nice couple!

A relaxed and fun time near the end of our shoot together.

I think daddy-to-be is excited, don't you?

Expect The Unexpected (Pun Intended)

This photo of Pam was taken with the intention of being fully lit up...but the flash didn't go. The light on her baby belly was from a difused light source. It came out very dark except for a bright cresent-shaped highlight near her belly button. I nearly deleted it but thought I would try to lighten it up using Lightroom 3. This is the result. I like the grainy effect. Love the romantic mood of it too. Seems peaceful to me.
Pam was a beautiful subject to photograph.

Unwilling / Willing Model Chris

Black and White with some vignetting in Lightroom 3. I am really enjoying learning and playing with post production stuff. Of course, trying to get 'the shot' on camera is key, but being able to fix them up afterwards is so amazingly fun!

All I did here was vignette the edges.

Tea Anyone?

This teapot was given to me by Ryans Gran. I don't use it as a teapot though. It has dish soap in it. I use it every day and everyone who sees me use it thinks it's a great teapot/soap despenser....then I tell them about Gran. I know it's a bit 'soft' but I like the effect in this photo.

Ahhh, The Good Ol' Days...

My first models of choice when I started really getting into photography were flowers and birds. Both are beautiful on their own. They are easy to find and there's no need to pose. They are about as close to perfect as it gets.  Here are a couple of my early photos of flowers. I think I will start showing some of my birds and flowers in the next few blog entries. Even though this is a very red rose, I thought it was neat to see in Black and White. It looks a bit antique-y I think.

This was taken with my small point and shoot Canon Powershot. I was at Gran's house in Sydney, BC and relishing in the colors in her garden. I am quite pleased with how this one turned out.

Blue Skies

I took this photo while in Bellingham this past summer. We were there for Chris's soccer tournament. They did well. There was a lot of farmland with some pretty neat scenes. I did a bit of toning on the color for this photo but the silhouette was as is. Can almost smell the clear farm air.

This was a really fun day with Gina and Brian. Thank you Gina for allowing me to post some of your memorable shots!

Chris

This is Chris, my younger son. He is 12 and one of my favorite models becase he is so expressive. This was with window light (my fave lighting) and a black velvet backdrop. It's a bit over exposed but I love how it brings out the apples of his cheeks and all those lovely freckles.

A Fitting Name

Here is Aspen, my brother and sister in law's dog. She is a German Shorthaired Retriever and liked having her photo taken a lot. Quite a poser. She is a year and a half now, very sweet and bounding with energy.
This was taken last week while we stayed at their cabin over New Years. It got pretty darned cold but everyone stayed warm.
Can you guess what she was doing when she posed for this? I'm pretty sure she had been looking for sticks or snowballs that someone had thrown for her.Was she thinking "Is there something on my face?"
From a photographer's standpoint, the eyes should be the most focused on animals...frankly most people as well...but the lips on Aspen made this shot so sweet.
You will likely see more of Aspen in the future.
If you click on the photo, you will see up close how precious her face is.
