This Fall's Leaves

Did you think I would not take photos of the amazing color this Fall? This was a day out at Queens Park on the sidelines of my boy's soccer game.

Another BW Tree On A Rock

Here's one more B/W tree on a cliff shot. I didn't do any HDR highlighting on this one. I think the sky looks pretty cool here.

Whytecliffe Park .. Black And White Trees On The Cliff

Brook and I had spent about an hour on this cliff playing with different angles and different lighting, choosing different scenes to shoot with multiple exposures. We were looking to create some good HDR photos. I liked how this one turned out.

My Boys

As much as I wanted to keep them small and dependent on me and Ryan, they have both grown up. We enjoyed some nice moments in the shallow warm pools of water at Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville, BC this year. Here are a couple photos from one of our evening walks.

Playing With HDR (again)

This was taken at a beach in Colwood, Victoria last month while visiting family. I wanted a lot of texture, include the clouds streaking through the sky, and was hoping it would look cool in both B/W and colour HDR. I like both!

Discovering Dundarave

So, Brook and I had another photo day today. We went to Dundarave and Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver. I have never been before and was very pleasantly surprised with all there was to see.

Raptor Show - Part One ... Bald Eagle

Today we went to the Raptor Show north of Duncan, BC. I couldn't get enough of these amazing birds.  There were so many to see!!! Today I will show you the majestic Bald Eagle. This one was a full grown adult. I think he was somewhere around 8 years old. I love birds, all birds. and seeing them up close was a real thrill. What a great vacation treat!
Stay tuned...there's more!

Wanna Ride?

During our walk last week in Vancouver, we came across a few different means of transportation. Mainly, by foot, and by car, but it's very apparent that people are riding their bikes and smaller motorized vehicles more often in the attempt to minimize their impact on the fading ozone. These are a couple of examples.

Reflections - Vancouver pt. 4

As promised, here are some of the 'reflection' photos I took this week in Vancouver. The last one shows one of my first Gastown photowalk photos with Brook. It's a favourite, these come in a close second. Enjoy!

A City Of Texture & Shape - Vancouver pt. 3

So, while Brook and I walked around Vancouver yesterday, I found myself looking up and down a lot. It was fun taking photos of the non-conventional things that we all take for granted sometimes. I like how these ones turned out! Stay tuned for tomorrow's "Reflections" post!

In Through The Out Door. Vancouver pt. 2

Brook and I sat in front of these rotating doors for about 15 minutes. I think I took about 20 photos of them. We were looking for one of them to be spinning while the other stayed still. Also, the reflections in the windows were always changing depending on what was speeding by on the sidewalk in front of us or behind us. See the two of us in the reflection bottom right? It was a really cool photographer's moment!

Vancouver

Everytime I go to Vancouver, I am in awe all over again when I look up at the buildings. They are a combination of old meeting new and seem to balance each other. The next few posts will be from our photo walk today. Brook and I were in fine form again....meandering around the streets, sometimes losing each other, and at other times, we found ourselves taking the same photo but not noticing each other doing it. It was a successful, relaxing day today.

Gibsons weekend

View from the deck facing northeast.

View from the deck facing east.

Ursula, Eliza, and I went to Ursula's family home in Gibson's this weekend. It was a beautiful home with lots of history and beautiful serene views, sounds of birds and boats in the marina, and just peace. Was a good refreshing couple of days.

Any Way The Wind Blows....

If you only knew how long Brook and I worked on getting this shot...hehehee. We looked like a couple of kids blowing on dandilions over and over and over again. It was a very educational and interesting experiment. Out of approximately 50 photos, this is the one that worked. Enjoy!

HDR

We went for a walk at UBC today. I've been looking a lot at shape and texture lately. This was one I chose to take and try my hand at HDR again using the program Photomatix. It brings out a lot of the shine in the railing and it sort of appears 'raised'. I like it.

Hello? Helloooo!.....bzzzz bzzzzz.....

So we are at a party tonight to celebrate a great soccer season and some 'bonding' between the Richmond United U16 Metro team. There was plenty of food, conversation, soccer scrimmages, boxing, trampoline basketball and of course Fifa 2012 on Xbox 360 (or was it Playstation)...Anyways, while these young men kicked the soccer ball around...barefoot I might add,...the cellphones started coming out for safe keeping on a brick ledge on the side of the yard....here's where they landed. It was quite comical. I hope they all got the correct phones back! Twas a very enjoyable evening. A good group of boys! Congrats and keep your eyes on the prize!!!

Sandhill Cranes, Turtles, and Ducks Oh My - at Reifel Bird Sanctuary

Headstand!!!
This was one of many Sandhill Cranes we saw today at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary. I like the reflection. I had told Brook that I was going to look for reflections. Can you see where the leg ends and the reflection starts?
The above was of an earlier sighting. This male was flying towards us from the next that held the female and 2 eggs. It came vey close to us. This was the clearest capture!

Some of these turtles were huge! I remember my pet turtle. We donated him to Art Knapp's when he got too big. Maybe this is Shellie! I'm sure he belonged to someone.
